A PRO file is a project file created using the Qt software development toolkit (SDK), which allows developers to create cross-platform applications. It contains all the information necessary to compile a Qt application with the Qt qmake command.

PRO files include references to project libraries, assets, and source code files, as well as other files such as application resources (.QRC files), project includes (.PRI files), translation sources (.TS files), phrase books (.QPH files), and style sheets (.QSS files).

Qt projects are used for creating applications that run on the Qt framework. They are commonly used for creating mobile applications.

A PRO file is a project created by KiCad, an open-source electronic design automation (EDA) program for designing printed circuit boards (PCBs) and electronic schematics. It contains project-level settings and information that apply to all schematics (.SCH files) and PCB layouts (.BRD files) in the project. Settings in a PRO file may include library references, schematic preferences, and other parameters that keep the project organized and consistent.

KiCad is a free, open-source electronic design automation (EDA) software popular among electronics hobbyists, students, and professional engineers for developing both simple and complex electronic projects. KiCad users save projects as PRO files to preserve project settings, library references, and schematic or PCB layout configurations in a single file.

PRO files were the primary file type for saving projects in KiCad until version 6. The files are saved in a text-based, key-value format. In KiCad 6 and later, the software replaced PRO files with KICAD_PRO files, which are saved in the JSON format.

You can open PRO files with KiCad. To open a PRO file, select File → Open Project. Since PRO files are a legacy format, KiCad will prompt you to update them to the new KICAD_PRO format before you continue working.

Since PRO files store plain text, you can open them with a text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad or Apple TextEdit. Opening PRO files with a text editor, will not appear the same as opening them with KiCad, but you can fix broken library paths, copy settings between projects, and more.

The PRO file format is the primary file extension of the TurboFloorPlan 3D Home & Landscape Pro software. It allows you to save and resume your work. The application allows you to import .DXF and .DWG files and Punch! 3D objects into the PRO design. You can also export the PRO file to a DXF or DWG file.

A PRO file defines a TurboIntegrator process. TurboIntegrator is a tool used to create automated scripts to perform various data management tasks within the IBM TM1 system. PRO files are often found in the data directory of a TM1 server.

PRO files are one of the definition files used within the IBM Cognos TM1 enterprise planning system, now part of IBM Planning Analytics as of November 2016. TurboIntegrator processes may be created and edited within the Planning Analytics Workspace.

A PRO file is a project created by Punch! Software Professional Home Design applications. It contains a layout design of a home. Each PRO file includes foundation, floor, electrical, plumbing, roofing, deck, and landscape objects and properties that are customized by the user.

To create a PRO file, select File → Save or Save As..., name your file, and click OK.

To open a PRO file in Punch! Software Professional Home Design applications, select File → Open, navigate to your file, and click OK.

A PRO file contains Interactive Data Language (IDL), a programming language used for data analysis in scientific fields. It stores functions and procedures in plain text. PRO files are typically created using the IDL development environment application.

You can create a PRO file in IDL by selecting File → Save As.... You can also select File → Generate .pro to generate a PRO file from GUIBuilder interface definitions. This option is only available in Windows. You can open the file in IDL or another text editor since the programming language is stored in plain text.

IDL is primarily used in scientific areas, such as medical imaging, atmospheric physics, and astronomy. It is used to visualize complex numerical data in order to help scientists and engineers more easily interpret data.
