An SDT file may also be a sound data file used in older Electronic Arts video games, such as Dungeon Keeper 2, Theme Park World, and the Formula One (F1) series. It contains compressed audio data, including background music and sound effects, which the games reference during gameplay. Despite their historical use in popular games, SDT files have become largely obsolete as newer audiovisual formats have emerged.

Most gamers did not encounter SDT files, since the game automatically loaded them during gameplay. However, game modders used tools, like Dragon UnPACKer and MAStudio 2002, to open SDT files and extract audio content, even converting them to more current formats like .MP3 or .WAV for easier use and broader compatibility.

SDT files are not meant to be opened. Instead, the game they are packaged with loaded the files during gameplay.

However, you can open SDT files with Dragon UnPACKer, which can extract and manage game audio files.

An SDT file may also be an audio file used by Grand Theft Auto III (GTA3), an open-world, action-adventure game. It may contain game music and sound effects, which the game references while running. The SDT format is specific to GTA3 and is no longer actively developed.

SDT files typically reside in the audio folder within the GTA3 installation directory. Players and game modders commonly encounter these files when modifying game audio. Examples of such files include Misbrief.sdt and sfx.sdt.

SmartDraw users create SDT files when saving a diagram as a template to reuse its design elements for future projects. When a new diagram is generated from an SDT file, it inherits the template's components and design settings, allowing users to ensure uniformity in style and structure across multiple documents or presentations.

NOTE: SDT files are typically found in the Documents folder within the SmartDraw installation folder.

You can open SDT files with SmartDraw in Windows and macOS. To open the file, launch SmartDraw and use the "Open" option typically found under the "File" menu. Alternatively, you can double-click the .SDT file if SmartDraw is set as the default application for opening it.
