What is an AFPUB file?

An AFPUB file is a page layout project created with Serif Affinity Publisher, which is an alternative to Adobe InDesign. It contains data used to show a magazine, brochure, flyer, or other document's page layout in Affinity Publisher. AFPUB files can be used to publish documents as .PDF, .PNG, .JPEG, .SVG, or .TIFF files. AFPUB files can also be converted to .PSD files, for use in Adobe Photoshop.

Graphic designers use Affinity Publisher to create printed and online documents, such as magazines, brochures, flyers, books, brand guidelines, and manuals. Affinity Publisher includes many tools that allow graphic designers to place, align, and adjust images and text, as well as add additional, layer-based graphic design elements.

When a graphic designer saves an Affinity Publisher project, the project is saved as an AFPUB file. The AFPUB file contains all the information needed to re-open the project in Affinity Publisher, including a record of the edits the graphic designer has made to the project. That way, the graphic designer can undo or adjust their edits in the future.

How do I save an AFPUB file as a package?

AFPUB files often contain links to images and other assets included in a page layout project. If you want to avoid preserving links to the assets included in an AFPUB file, you can save the project as a package, which will automatically create copies of all linked assets and store them alongside your AFPUB file. To save an AFPUB file as a package, select File → Save As Package... from Affinity Publisher's menu bar.

How do I export an AFPUB file as a PDF, image, or PSD?

After you've finished your Affinity Publisher page layout project, you can export the document you've created as a PDF, image, or PSD file. To export a document from Affinity Publisher, select File → Export... from the program's menu bar.

NOTE: Affinity Publisher replaced Serif PagePlus, which was discontinued in 2017.

How do I open an AFPUB file?

You can open an AFPUB file (Affinity Publisher Document) in Affinity Publisher (Windows, macOS). To do so, select File → Open from the program's menu bar. Then, navigate to and open your AFPUB file.
