An MDC file may also be a camera raw image created by a Minolta digital camera such as the Minolta RD-175. It stores image data that the camera captured and then saved on the camera's storage device. Photographers often transfer MDC files to their computers for photo editing and then save the result to a format such as JPEG which can be shared.
More Information
MDC is not a common camera raw format. You will most likely only encounter an MDC file if you take photographs with the Minolta RD-175 camera or if you receive an MDC camera raw image from a friend or co-worker sharing an image captured with a Minolta camera.
How to open an MDC file
There are several software programs, as well as software development kits, that support the MDC format. One software development kit that supports MDC is LibRaw.

An MDC file may also be a 3D model saved in a format used by the video games Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory. It contains a mesh, colorization data, shading data, and animation data. The animation data an MDC file contains is compressed.
More Information
Return to Castle Wolfenstein and Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory are entries in the Wolfenstein series of first-person shooter video games. Return to Castle Wolfenstein was developed primarily by Gray Matter Studios and released in 2001. Wolfenstein: Enemy Territory was developed by Splash Damage and released in 2003.
Both games use 3D models saved in the MDC format. The MDC format is similar to the .MD3 format, except the animation data MDC files contain is compressed. This can result in similar models having much smaller file sizes when saved in the MDC format.
How to open an MDC file
MDC files are not meant to be opened outside the games in which they are used. However, Wolfenstein modders have created the RtCW:ET Blender Model Tools add-on to allow them to open MDC files (and other types of Wolfenstein 3D models) in Blender.
