What is a GTAR file?

File archive created using the GNU Tar standard, which was originally developed for tape archives; contains a group of uncompressed files; commonly compressed into a .TGZ format using .GZ gzip compression.

The GTAR extension is rarely used for Tar archives. Instead, the .TAR extension is much more commonly used.
