An SSV file is a plain text data file saved in the semicolon-separated values (SSV) format, which is similar to a .CSV or .TSV file, but stores values separated by semicolons instead of commas or tabs. It contains data organized into columns separated by semicolons (;) and rows separated by line breaks. People may use SSV files to transfer data between applications, like from a database program to a spreadsheet application.

Although SSV files aren't as common as CSV and TSV files, many spreadsheet and database programs can export data in the SSV format. For example, the Dell OpenManage Server Administrator allows you to export data in the SSV format using the command omreport system summary -fmt ssv. You can then import the SSV file in the desktop version of Microsoft Excel.

You can also create an SSV file manually with plain text editors, such as Microsoft Notepad or Apple TextEdit. After saving the file, you can rename the .txt file extension to .ssv. However, manually creating an SSV file can be time-consuming if you have a lot of data.

REMARQUE: The first "S" in "SSV" might also stand for "Space" or "Separator," meaning the values could be separated by a character other than semicolons.

You can also open SSV files with a plain text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad, Apple TextEdit. These programs will display the data in the SSV files, but will not format them the same way as spreadsheet applications do.
