What is a VROID file?
A VROID file is a 3D avatar created by pixiv VRoid Studio, an avatar creation program. It is saved in a proprietary format used only by VRoid Studio. Users typically export VROID files from VRoid Studio as .VRM files, for use with other programs.
More Information
VRoid Studio allows you to create a 3D avatar and export it in the VRM format, for use with VR programs that support the VRM 3D avatar standard. These avatars typically look like anime characters with stylized hair and clothes.
Natively, VRoid Studio saves users' avatars as VROID files. You can open a VROID file in VRoid Studio to edit the avatar it contains. (You cannot open VRM files in VRoid Studio.) By default, VRoid Studio saves users' VROID files in the following directory:
- Windows: ~/Users/YourUserName/Documents/vroid/avatars
- Mac: ~/Users/YourUserName/vroid/avatars
How to open a VROID file
You can open a VROID file with VRoid Studio (Windows, Mac). To do so, select Open from VRoid Studio's model selection screen. Then, navigate to and open your VROID file.
How to convert a VROID file
You can use VRoid Studio to convert a VROID file to the following formats:
- .VRM - Virtual Reality Model
- FVP - pixivFACTORY 3D Printing File
To do so, select the Upload button that appears in the program's upper-right corner. Then, select either Export as VRM or Export for 3D Printing.
