MSF files are commonly found in email client software, such as Mozilla Thunderbird and SeaMonkey, where they help manage large volumes of emails by providing quick access to message summaries. Users typically do not create or edit MSF files manually. Instead, the email client generates and maintains them automatically to optimize email handling and reduce load times.

NOTE: Although essential for email program functionality, MSF files can sometimes become corrupted, leading to performance issues. Users can often resolve these issues by deleting the MSF file, as the email client will regenerate it from the original messages stored in other formats, such as .MBOX or .EML on the next application startup.

MSF files are not meant to be opened. Instead, the email client that supports the file, such as Mozilla Thunderbird or SeaMonkey, automatically references the files in the profile folder containing your mail data to load their information.
