An AST file is an audio file used in a Nintendo Wii video game. It contains in-game music. Most notably, Super Mario Galaxy 1 and 2 and The Legend of Zelda: Twilight Princess use AST files.

The AST file format is one of many proprietary file formats Nintendo uses to store in-game music. Those who rip the contents of their Wii game discs or explore Wii-related forums are most likely to encounter AST files, extracted from certain Wii video games. A variety of Super Mario Galaxy's AST files, for example, can be found online.

You can open an AST file with vgmstream (multiplatform), to play the music it contains. You can also play AST files with Foobar2000 or Nullsoft Winamp, after installing those programs' vgmstream plug-ins.

You can use astConverter (Windows) to convert AST files to the .MP3, .WAV, or .OGG formats. You can also use Foobar2000 to convert AST files to WAV and other formats, provided you have the vgmstream plug-in installed.
