Software Overview
Blizzard StarCraft (SC) is a science fiction real-time strategy (RTS) game for Windows and OS X. It was first released in 1998 for Windows, in 1999 for Mac, and in 2000 for Nintendo 64. The game spawned a sequel, StarCraft II.
The game revolves around three species, Protoss, Zerg, and Terran, fighting for dominance in a distant part of the galaxy. The game can be played as a single player campaign or in multiplayer mode through Blizzard's Battle.net Internet service. Gameplay involves harvesting minerals and gas, constructing buildings, and attacking opponents. The game also features expansions that add missions, maps, units, and other elements.
StarCraft has been described by many as one of the most influential RTS games ever created. It helped raise the bar for gaming and won countless gaming awards. Although the game is outdated compared to today's offerings, Blizzard StarCraft still remains one of the best RTS games ever released.
