A BCM file is a cache file generated by Adobe Bridge, an Adobe Creative Cloud (CC) file management application. It contains data, such as labels and ratings, for files that can't be stored in the file, which helps improve results when a Bridge user searches for files.

Bridge is a digital asset management tool that integrates with other Adobe programs, such as Photoshop and After Effects. The application comes with various features, including tools to organize multimedia files, create workflow automation (like batch image conversion), and publish creative assets.

The software creates cache files to store information about assets for several purposes, including loading information about assets more quickly and not creating large and bloated asset files. BCM files are one type of cache file supported by Bridge, with others being . BC, .BCT, and .BRIDGECACHE files.

Cached files like BCM files can take up storage space. To remove them, navigate to their folder and select Tools → Cache → Purge Cache For Folder "foldername".

You should not attempt to open BCM files. Instead, Adobe Bridge references the metadata in the file when a user searches for assets with Bridge.

A BCM file contains a character set created by the creumap utility packaged with Free Pascal. It stores binary data for how to convert between Unicode and a specific code page (character encoding), such as CP1254 (Turkish character encoding) or CP1255 (Hebrew character encoding). Free Pascal references BCM files to determine how to interpret individual bytes in a string of source code.

Free Pascal (formerly known as FPK Pascal) is an open-source program used to compile various Pascal dialects. The IDE can target many multiprocessor architectures, such as PowerPC, Intel x86, AMD64/x86-64, SPARC64, and ARM. It can also target operating systems, such as Windows, Android, macOS, iOS, Linux, FreeBSD, and Nintendo Wii.

BCM files are packaged with Free Pascal and referenced to direct the compiler in how to convert different character encodings from and to Unicode. You can find BCM files included with Pascal in the following directory wherever Free Pascal is installed:

You can typically determine the code page data stored in the BCM file by its filename. For example, the cp737_le.bcm file stores little-endian (distinguishable by le in the filename, whereas be represents big-endian) code page data for the Greek language (distinguishable by cp737).

BCM files are not meant to be manually opened by a user. Instead, they are resource files referenced by the Free Pascal Compiler (FPC).

A BCM file is a custom map for the video game BONEWORKS. BONEWORKS modders create and distribute BCM files so other players can install them and play the levels they contain. To use BCM files, BONEWORKS players must install the Custom Maps mods (and associated dependencies).

BONEWORKS is a Unity-based VR game in which players kill enemies, solve puzzles, and attempt to escape a city. The game enjoys a healthy modding scene, in which modders create and distribute mods, custom items, and custom game maps.

Most custom BONEWORKS maps are saved as BCM files. (Some instead use the .cma extension.) These files are meant to be used with the Custom Maps mod, which is available from Thunderstore, an online BONEWORKS mod hub. After installing the Custom Maps mods and its dependencies, including MelonLoader and ModThatIsNotMod, players can install BCM files to play on the custom game maps they contain.

OPMERKING: To create BCM files, BONEWORKS modders use Unity and a Custom Maps Template project available from the Custom Maps mod's Thunderstore listing.

After installing the BONEWORKS MelonLoader, ModThatIsNotMod, and Custom Maps mods, place your BCM file in BONEWORKS' UserData/​CustomMaps directory. Then, open BONEWORKS' BoneMenu and select the Custom Maps category. Finally, select the map your BCM file contains to play it.
