Movie subtitles file created in the Structured Subtitle Format (SSF); uses a verbose CSS-like syntax unlike the simple text notation of other popular plain text formats, and therefore is more and difficult to edit manually with a text editor.

The SSF format has not been widely adopted.

An SSF file is a skin used to alter the appearance of Sogou Pinyin Method, a Chinese Pinyin input method editor. It is a Zip-compressed package that stores multiple .PNG images and an .INI configuration file (typically named Skin.ini).

Sogou Pinyin Method is a popular input method editor (IME) among Chinese users. IMEs enable users to create characters that are not available on their input devices, most commonly, keyboards. In this context, Sogou Pinyin Method allows users of QWERTY keyboards to utilize Chinese Pinyin (the official romanization for Standard Chinese) by creating input codes associated with extra characters unavailable on the keyboard.

The Sogou Pinyin Method utility allows users to customize its appearance, which includes icons and text fields. The SSF file stores the images and settings that alter the appearance when loaded.

You can open SSF files with Sogou Pinyin Method in Windows and macOS. When you open the file in Sogou Pinyin Method, the software loads the skin, and the appearance changes.

You can also open SSF files by decompressing them with a Zip decompression tool, such as File Explorer (bundled with Windows), Apple Archive Utility (bundled with macOS), Corel WinZip (Windows), Corel WinZip Mac (macOS), or RARLAB WinRAR (Windows). You will need to change the .ssf file extension to .zip, then you can decompress it and view its contents.

An SSF file is an audio file used by a Sega Saturn video game. It contains music played in the game. Gamers sometimes rip SSF files from Sega Saturn ROMs to play the music they contain in various media players.

You can use Audio Overload, Vitamin/CAIG ZXTune, or modizer to open an SSF file and play the music it contains. You can also use Winamp, with the Chipamp plug-in installed, or foobar2000, with the SSF/DSF Decoder plug-in installed.

You can use Audio Overload to convert SSF files to the .WAV (WAVE Audio) format. To do so, open your SSF file and select the Save clip... button.
