What is a VPC6 file?
A VPC6 file is a virtual machine package created by Microsoft Virtual PC 6, a discontinued virtualization program for Mac OS X that allowed users to run Windows operating systems on PowerPC-based Macs. It stores the data required to load and run an emulated Windows environment, including the virtual hard drive, system configuration, and saved state information.
More Information
Virtual PC 6 used VPC6 files to organize all components of a virtual machine into a single package for easier management and transfer. Each package contained the necessary resources for booting Windows and running Windows applications alongside Mac software.
NOTE: VPC6 files are similar to .VPC7 files.
How to open a VPC6 file
You can open VPC6 files with Parallels Desktop for Mac and VMware Fusion. To open a VPC6 file with either program, select File → Open. Microsoft Virtual PC 6 also supports VPC6 files, but the software is discontinued.
