What is a VPC7 file?
A VPC7 file is a virtual machine package created by version 7 of Microsoft Virtual PC, a discontinued virtualization application for Mac OS X that allowed users to run Windows operating systems on PowerPC-based Macs. It stores the components of an emulated Windows environment, such as the virtual hard drive, configuration settings, and saved states used to resume sessions.
More Information
Virtual PC 7 used VPC7 files to bundle all data required to operate a virtual machine into a single package. This packaging system made it easier for users to manage, back up, or transfer virtual systems between Macs.
NOTE: VPC7 files replaced .VPC6 files created by version 6 of Virtual PC.
How to open a VPC7 file
You can open VPC7 files with Parallels Desktop for Mac and VMware Fusion. To open a VPC7 file with either program, select File → Open. Microsoft Virtual PC 7 also supports VPC7 files, but the software is discontinued.
