What is a TFMX file?
A TFMX file is a music module saved in The Final Music System Extended (TFMX) format. It contains musical data, including notes, instruments, macros, and sequencing instructions, that the TFMX music engine reads to play back a song. TFMX files were primarily used to compose and store songs for video games and demos on the Commodore Amiga, on which Chris Hülsbeck and Peter Thierolf developed the format.
More Information
The TFMX format extended the capabilities of earlier Amiga music trackers by supporting features such as individual track tempos, logarithmic pitch bends, sound macros, and more audio channels than the standard Amiga four-voice hardware. Users of The Final Music System Tracker created songs and saved them as TFM or TFMX files, which could then be used directly in game soundtracks or played back within the tracker software.
How to open a TFMX file
You can open TFMX files with various modern music trackers and media players. Some examples include:
- Nullsoft Winamp, after installing the TFMXPlug plug-in (Windows)
- TTKMusicPlayer (Windows, Linux)
- CocoModX (Mac)
