What is an SML file?

Script written for ARC/INFO, an older DOS GIS program developed by ESRI; permits a subset of the language features of the Arc Macro Language (.AML files), which was used by ArcInfo WorkStation; used for building GIS applications for the ARC/INFO environment.

More Information

The Simple Macro Language is an interpreted language. SML files are saved in an ASCII text format.

NOTE: ArcInfo is now ArcGIS for Desktop Advanced.

.SML File Association 2

Audiovisual presentation created in the Synchronized Multimedia Integration Language (SMIL), which was developed by the Synchronized Multimedia (SYMM) Working Group; contains markup code similar to HTML as well as text and references to streaming audio and video files; used to store choreographed presentations.

NOTE: SMIL is pronounced "smile." SMIL presentations are more commonly seen with the .SMIL extension.
