Redline Markup Language File

File created by Volo View, a program used for marking up CAD drawings; saved in an XML format and contains annotations and other markups that are displayed in red text when overlaid on a drawing; enables design reviewers to embed notes in CAD drawings.
Volo View was discontinued in 2009 and is no longer supported by Autodesk. Instead, reviewers can markup CAD drawings using a product such as Autodesk Design Reviewer, which saves redline markup notes in .DWF and .DWFX files.
NOTE: The RML file type was supported by AutoCAD up through AutoCAD 2005, which included an RML importer command-line tool called RMLIN. This tool imports the markup into a locked drawing layer called "_Markup_."

An RML file may also be a modlist used by the video game RimWorld. Players use RML files to organize and load multiple related RimWorld mods. RML files are XML files that list the RimWorld version and mods with which they are meant to be used.
RimWorld is a sci-fi video game in which players must build a colony on a world located at the rim of known space. The game has a very active modding community, which distributes both simple and complex mods via the Internet.
Some complex mods require users to load a series of related mods in the correct order. To accomplish this, players must place a modlist, or RML, file in the game's ModLists directory. Each RML file lists a set of mods (which a user must have already subscribed to and installed in their Mods folder) in the order RimWorld must load them for correct gameplay.
How to open an RML file
To use an RML file with the Windows version of RimWorld, place the file in the following directory:
~/AppData/LocalLow/LudeonStudios/RimWorld by Ludeon Studios/ModLists
To use an RML file with the Mac version of RimWorld, place the file in the following directory:
(These directory paths may differ if you use the Steam version of RimWorld.)
You can also open an RML file with Microsoft Notepad (Windows), Apple TextEdit (Mac), or any other text editor, to view the modlist it contains.
