What is a PPSX file?
A PPSX file is a slide show created by Microsoft PowerPoint or another presentation program, such as OpenOffice Impress or SoftOffice Presentations. It contains a finished collection of slides that are used for slide show playback. PPSX files are similar to .PPTX files but open as a presentation slide show when double-clicked, instead of a working presentation file.
More Information
PPSX files are useful for sending finished presentations to users that just need to view the presentation instead of editing it. However, they can still be edited in PowerPoint but must be opened directly in the program by selecting File → Open and choosing the PPSX file.
PPSX files are saved in the Open XML format, which was introduced in Microsoft Office 2007. They replaced .PPS files which were used by previous versions of PowerPoint, although PowerPoint still supports PPS files.
How to open a PPSX file
You can open, edit, save, and convert PPSX files with Microsoft PowerPoint in Windows and macOS. PowerPoint is the best option for opening PPSX files because the software fully supports the formatting of the slide show, which includes the placement of text and images. The application is also available for Android and iOS devices.
Several other presentation programs can open PPSX files but they may not fully support the formatting of the slide show files. Alternative programs include Kingsoft Presentation (multiplatform), Apache OpenOffice Impress (multiplatform), Ability Office (Windows), and Apple Keynote (Mac). If you are a Mac user simply looking to view a PPSX file, you can use Apple Preview, which comes bundled with macOS.
You can also open PPSX files with Google Slides, which is a free web and mobile application you can access with a Google account. The web tool allows you to open, edit, save, and convert the slide show.
