What is a DIB file?
A DIB file is a raster image saved in the Device-Independent Bitmap format. It is similar to a .BMP bitmap image but has different header information. DIB files may be compressed or uncompressed; most are uncompressed.

Microsoft developed the DIB format for use with the Windows and OS/2 (Operating System/2) operating systems. The format supports 1-, 4-, 8-, or 24-bit pixels for uncompressed images, and 4- or 8-bit pixels for RLE-compressed images. 24-bit DIB images use 8 bits for each RGB color.

You can open a DIB file with most image viewers and editors, including Microsoft Photos (Windows), Apple Preview (Mac), XnViewMP (multiplatform), and Adobe Photoshop (Windows, Mac).
