What is a AIFC file?
An AIFC file is a compressed .AIFF file commonly used by media players and gaming consoles to store sounds. It is saved in the Audio Interchange File Format (AIFF) and compressed with one of several codecs, such as ULAW, ALAW, or G722 compression.
AIFC, or AIFF-C, is a compressed variant of the uncompressed AIFF format, which is developed by Apple and released in 1988. It is optimal for storing CD-quality audio in smaller file sizes when space is limited.
NOTE: While compressed AIFF files are typically saved with the .aifc file extension, they may also be saved with the .aiff and .aif file extensions.
How to open a AIFC file
You can open an AIFC file with various audio players, including Microsoft Windows Media Player (bundled with Windows) and Apple Music (bundled with macOS).
You can also open AIFC files with Audacity (multiplatform), VideoLAN VLC media player (multiplatform), and vgmstream (Windows, Linux).
