Software Overview

Apple iTunes is a free media player that was previously included on all macOS and iOS devices. It has since been replaced by Apple Music, Apple Podcasts, and Apple TV. However, macOS users using Mojave or an earlier version can still install and use iTunes, as can Windows users.

In its heyday, iTunes was an incredibly popular media player. The program allows you to purchase music, movies, TV shows, and apps from the iTunes store, and to organize all your digital media, including media not purchased through iTunes, in one place.

For example, after purchasing or importing music into iTunes, you can organize your music by song, album, artist, and/or genre. You can also create custom playlists and use iTunes Radio to create free "radio stations" based on your favorite artists. Even better, if you have iTunes (or Apple Music, TV, and Podcasts) installed on your iOS device, iTunes will sync your purchases and downloads between your PC and your iOS device.

For Windows users and macOS users using Mojave or an earlier version, iTunes remains a great choice for purchasing, organizing, and playing media. It features an easy-to-use interface that helps novices quickly learn its functions, and it provides users with the largest downloadable music and video catalog of any media player. Just be aware that Apple has begun the process of phasing out iTunes, and that you may have to migrate your media catalog to another app or apps in the future.
