Compressed container file created in the Compact File Set (CFS) format, an open format developed by Pismo Technic; stores data using a reduced implementation of the .ISO disc image standard; used for storing CD and DVD disc images, as well as for creating software distributions and large compressed file archives.

CFS files were designed to be easier to read than ISO files, which can be difficult to read due to the large range of supported storage options in the ISO specification. Since CFS files are compatible with the ISO file standard, they can be read by many existing ISO applications.

A CFS file is a program developed by Zaplots, a company best known for developing video games and backup software. It can be installed and run using CFS Console, a console app used specifically to run Zaplots programs. Most often, CFS files contain Zaplots video games.

CFS files are often associated with a corresponding .GIS file. The GIS file contains settings that CFS Console uses to install the program the CFS file contains.

You can use Zaplots CFS Console (Windows) to install and run the program a CFS file contains. To do so, you may need a corresponding GIS file.
