The PEC format was primarily used in older versions of Re:PhiEdit, before the editor introduced the newer .PEZ format. While PEC files can still represent complete charts, they support fewer features than later formats and may lose information when converted from newer chart formats, such as JSON-based RPE charts. Because of this, PEC files are obscure, now mainly encountered in legacy projects or older community chart distributions.
