A PEC file may also be a PhiEdit chart file used by Re:PhiEdit (version 1.5 and earlier), a community-developed chart editor for the rhythm game Phigros. It stores note timing, placement, and chart structure data used to define how a song is played in the game. Chart creators, modders, and rhythm game enthusiasts are the primary users of PEC files, especially those working with archived Phigros content or older editing workflows.
More Information
The PEC format was primarily used in older versions of Re:PhiEdit, before the editor introduced the newer .PEZ format. While PEC files can still represent complete charts, they support fewer features than later formats and may lose information when converted from newer chart formats, such as JSON-based RPE charts. Because of this, PEC files are obscure, now mainly encountered in legacy projects or older community chart distributions.
How to open a PEC file
You can open PEC files with older versions of Re:PhiEdit (1.5 and earlier). Outside of Re:PhiEdit, PEC files are not designed to be opened directly, but since they may be text-based, advanced users can inspect them with text editors for reference purposes only.
