What is a WRI file?

A WRI file is a text document created with Microsoft Write, a basic word processor that came with early versions of Windows through Windows 3.1. It may contain styled text and page formatting information.

More Information

The WRI file was the main file associated with Microsoft Write. However, when Write was replaced by WordPad and less users created and shared WRI files, support for the format declined sharply.

Currently, WRI files are rarely used to save text documents. But if you come across an old WRI file or someone shares a WRI file with you, there are several programs available, including a free option in LibreOffice.
