What is a WRI file?

A WRI file is a text document created using Microsoft Write, a basic word processor that came with early versions of Windows. WRI files typically contain styled text and page formatting information. For example, a WRI file may contain a formatted letter, resume, or other document.

Microsoft Write was included with Windows 1.0 to Windows NT 3.51. With the release of Windows 95, Microsoft discontinued both Write and the WRI file format, and replaced Write with Microsoft Wordpad.

Because Microsoft Write has been discontinued for decades, WRI files are now uncommon. However, several word processing programs can still open WRI files.

How to open a WRI file

You can open a WRI file with LibreOffice Writer (multiplatform), OpenOffice Writer (multiplatform), or Collabora Office (multiplatform).

How to convert a WRI file
