What is an RW8 file?
An RW8 file is a website project created by version 8 of Realmac RapidWeaver, a macOS website development application. It stores information about a website project, such as page content, site structure, theme settings, publishing information, resources, and references to media files used by the website. Realmac Software replaced RW8 files with .RWC files when it released RapidWeaver Classic (version 9).
More Information
Web designers, freelancers, hobbyists, and developers who used RapidWeaver version 8 are most likely to encounter RW8 files. They create and save RW8 files when maintaining website layouts, updating content, and managing site settings throughout development.
NOTE: Realmac Software introduced RW8 files when it released RapidWeaver 8, which succeeded RapidWeaver 7 and its .RW project format.
How to open an RW8 file
You can open RW8 files with Realmac RapidWeaver 8. However, it is discontinued.
You can also open RW8 projects with RapidWeaver Classic, which imports the project and saves a converted copy as an RWC file for continued editing. To open an RW8 file with RapidWeaver Classic, select File → Open. After opening the project, you can edit pages, update themes, preview the site, and publish the finished website.
