What is an RW6 file?
An RW6 file is a website project created by version 6 of Realmac RapidWeaver 6, a macOS application for designing and publishing websites. It saves all of the information for a website, including its pages, organization, themes, publishing settings, images, and other project resources. Rather than storing the published website, the file preserves the editable project used by RapidWeaver during development.
More Information
RapidWeaver 6 uses RW6 files as its primary project format for website development. The file preserves the editable state of a website rather than the exported HTML, CSS, JavaScript, and media files that are published to a web server. Web designers, freelancers, hobbyists, and developers commonly use RW6 files to manage website layouts, update content, customize themes, and configure publishing settings throughout a project's development.
NOTE: Realmac Software introduced RW6 files when it released RapidWeaver 6, replacing the .RWSW project format used by earlier versions of the software. Version 7 of the software saved projects as .RW files, replacing RW6 files.
How to open an RW6 file
You can open RW6 files with RapidWeaver Classic, which imports the project and saves a converted copy as an RWC file for continued editing. To open an RW6 file with RapidWeaver Classic, select File → Open.
You can also open RW6 files with Realmac RapidWeaver 6, 7, and 8. However, these versions are discontinued.
