What is a MAD file?

Video file used by a variety of games developed by Electronic Arts, such as the Need for Speed series and select Sims games; contains audio and video data used to play title and logo sequences, opening movies, in-game cutscenes and other movies.

The MAD format uses MADk, MADm, and MADe chunks, or sets of data, that correspond to different video frame types used to play video and audio.

NOTE: Media Player Classic can only play the audio in MAD files and not the video.
