An MPL file contains a playlist created by Sony AVCHD digital camcorders. It stores an ordered list of names of individual video clips and references to recorded .MTS video files. MPL files do not store actual video data.

The files are referenced by the camcorder that created them for the purpose of video file navigation and playback. MPL files are saved in the AVCHD\BDMV\PLAYLIST directory of the recording media.
