What is an MPL file?
An MPL file contains a playlist created by Sony AVCHD digital camcorders. It stores an ordered list of names of individual video clips and references to recorded .MTS video files. MPL files do not store actual video data.

You will most likely only encounter an MPL file if you own a Sony AVCHD digital camcorder and transferred the MPL file to your computer. The files are referenced by the camcorder that created them for the purpose of video file navigation and playback. MPL files are saved in the AVCHD\BDMV\PLAYLIST directory of the recording media.
