A CML file is a data file used by various GIS applications, such as gvSIG and WMC Client for ArcGIS. It contains the layers and parameters of a web map project in XML format. CML files allow web map projects to be opened at different times and locations with the same current views when the projects were last opened.

In 1999, the Open Geospatial Consortium (OGC) developed a standard protocol called Web Map Service (WMS). This protocol was used for georeferencing map images produced by a map server using data from a GIS database over the Internet.

WMC, CML, and XML files are used to store contextual information to recreate map views with Web Map Services (WMS) layers on other GIS platforms. These files not only include the information required to display a map, but they also store metadata, such as the information about the WMS server layers in the map set and the origin of the CML file.

Game file used by Crazy Machines, a creative physics-based puzzle game; saves a collection of experiments, which are game levels that are played by the user; enables players to group levels together.

A lab called "My Lab" can be used by the player to create custom experiments in the game. In My Lab, players can export experiments to .CME files as well as import CME files. In this manner, players can share experiments in their lab with others.

HINWEIS: CML files are saved to the \​data\​labs\​ directory in the Crazy Machines installation directory.

CML files are encrypted email attachments created by CryptoMailer. Each CML file contains a file that has been encrypted by the user's copy of the CryptoMailer software. CML files can be decrypted and opened by recipients that have the CryptoMailer software installed.

CryptoMailer integrates with Microsoft Outlook, Windows Live Mail, and Thunderbird email clients, as well as webmail programs.
