Valve Half-Life is a first-person shooter and puzzle-solving game in which players must escape from a research facility while fighting off aliens. The game uses assets saved in a variety of proprietary file formats, including the SPR format. (The PS2 version of Half-Life instead uses sprites saved as .SPZ files.)
Typically, Half-Life's SPR files are saved in the following directory:
half-life/valve/sprites
Half-Life modders sometimes modify or replace the game's default SPR files. This allows them to customize how in-game objects appear.

SPR files are not meant to be opened. Instead, Half-Life references the files to load the sprites they store.
However, if you want to view the sprites stored in an SPR file, you can use SprView or Sprite Explorer in Windows.
