How to convert images with Apple Preview

Step-by-step instructions

In macOS, you can use Apple Preview to convert an image to any of the following formats:

• .JPG - JPEG Image
• .PNG - Portable Network Graphic
• .PDF - Portable Document Format
• .TIFF - Tagged Image File Format
• .HEIC - High Efficiency Image Format
• .JP2 - JPEG 2000 Core Image
• .EXR - OpenEXR Image

To convert an image with Apple Preview:

1. Open the image in Apple Preview. (For a full list of the image formats Apple Preview supports, click here.)
2. Select File → Export....
3. In the Format: field, select your desired export format.
4. Click Save.

After you click Save, Apple Preview saves a copy of your image in the format you selected.
