Lionhead Studios Black & White is a Windows and OS X game where players act as gods to control villages. It was developed by Lionhead Studios and published by Electronic Arts and Feral Interactive in 2001.
The game places you as a god newly created by prayers from a family. You rule over an island inhabited by several tribes, performing miracles and moving people or objects in order to get them to believe in and submit to you. Another element of gameplay is your Creature, which acts similar to a pet that can be trained to serve as your avatar in the world. You can use your Creature to battle with gods from other land to steal their followers. The main purpose of the game is to illustrate the struggle between good and evil and the effects this struggle has on a world.
The game received almost universal acclaim when it was released back in the early 2000s. It has also received some backlash over time as the game is often listed as overrated. Regardless of critics' takes, Lionhead Studios Black & White delivers what it promises as it lets you navigate the complex struggle between good and evil.
