Software Overview

IBM SPSS is a statistical analysis program available for Windows, Mac, Linux, iOS, and Android. It was originally produced by SPSS Inc., but was acquired by IBM in 2009. It is generally used to research marketing, healthcare, government, education, surveying, and data mining fields.

SPSS includes many different tools for statistical analysis, data management, and data documentation. It allows you to manage case selections and provides a file reshaping tool for changing your data from wide to long form or vice versa. It also has a metadata dictionary to assist you with documentation.

With this program you can use descriptive and bivariate statistics, as well as prediction for numerical outcomes and prediction for identifying groups. You can use SPSS to measure frequencies, means, correlations, linear regressions and other statistical factors. You can also use it for doing a wide range of testing including cross tabulation, t-tests, nonparametric tests, factor analysis, and cluster analysis.

IBM SPSS is a great customizable statistical analysis solution for mid-size and larger organizations. It is priced fairly high but is available at a heavily discounted price for academic purposes. Without the academic discount it is not the best option for smaller organizations or individual use. If your organization has a lot of data to analyze and can afford the price tag of SPSS, it is a great option for predicting outcomes.
