Software Overview
DT Soft DAEMON Tools is a Windows and OS X utility used to emulate virtual drives and create CD and DVD disc images. The software is available in different editions, such as Ultra, Lite, Pro Standard, Pro Advanced, Net, and Tools for Mac.
The Pro Advanced edition of the application offers all of the DAEMON Tools (DT) features. You can mount a variety of disc image formats, such as MDX (proprietary format), ISO, BIN, ISZ, and MDS/MDF, to a virtual drive, along with VMDK, VHD, ZIP, and TrueCrypt files. You can also convert images from the supported formats to MDX, ISO, or MDF/MDS formats and you can make CD, DVD, and Blu-ray discs from MDF/MDS, ISO, or MDX images.
The program enables you to create compressed disc images or split an image into several files. If you have important data that needs advanced security, the application allows you to make password-protected TrueCrypt images. As far as virtualization goes, the software allows you to create up to 16 virtual HDD devices, emulate up to 32 DT and SCSI devices, and use 4 virtual IDE devices.
DAEMON Tools is a utility used by novice and advanced users. Depending on the edition you are using, the software provides advanced tools for virtual drive emulation and management of disc image formats. For Windows users, DT Soft DAEMON Tools provides a great set of tools but for OS X users, the capabilities aren't even close to being comparable and they should look elsewhere.
