Adobe FreeHand

Software Overview

Adobe FreeHand was a vector graphic editing program similar to Illustrator, another Adobe program. Adobe discontinued development of the program soon after obtaining ownership of it in an attempt to transition FreeHand users over to Illustrator.

FreeHand was commonly used by illustrators, publishers, and web content creators. Its page layout and text formatting features made FreeHand useable for efficiently designing publications. It is still available to purchase in its final version for both Mac and Windows.

FreeHand had many useful features that made it a powerful design tool. It utilized a graphic wand tool to quickly select objects and a lasso tool to select areas based on the user's selection. It also had many exporting options including the ability to export to HTML, Flash, and Photoshop documents.

If you wish to see Adobe start developing the program again, there is a group called the Free FreeHand Organization that is petitioning to have it be continued. For those of you who don't care about FreeHand and simply wish to have a tool for creating vector graphics, Illustrator will suffice.
