A BPW file is a world file used by geographic information system (GIS) applications to store georeferencing information for a corresponding .BMP raster image. It maps the image to real-world coordinates by defining parameters such as pixel size, rotation, and location. GIS software reads the BPW file together with the BMP image so it can display the image in the correct geographic position.
Mais informações
BPW files are typically stored in the same folder as their corresponding BMP images and use the same filename, differing only by their extension. They provide the spatial information needed to align the image with maps and other geographic datasets, making them useful in cartography, surveying, environmental studies, engineering, and other GIS applications.
Although BMP images are used less often than some other raster formats in modern GIS workflows, many GIS programs still support BPW files. Users typically create BPW files when exporting or saving georeferenced BMP images, allowing them to share the images while preserving their geographic location.
