Wat is een SONGDATA-bestand?

A SONGDATA file is a level information file used by jOeSU, a pay-what-you-want rhythm game in which players press keyboard buttons in time to music. It contains the timing and positions at which players must press buttons during a level, or it contains additional metadata about the level. SONGDATA files are associated with particular songs, and their filenames often include the name of the song they are used with.

Much like Guitar Hero, osu!, and other rhythm-based games, jOeSU asks players to perform an action in time with music. In jOeSU, players must press either the W, A, S, or D key on their keyboard in time with prompts that appear during a song. The game's base SONGDATA files are each associated with a particular song (noted by the song name included in their filename), and they contain a list of numeric information that jOeSU uses to show prompts to players.

jOeSU players can create their own levels using the game's level editor. When they do, jOeSU saves the level as a folder within the player's Documents directory. These folders contain two SONGDATA files. data.songdata contains information on the prompts that should be shown during the custom level, and info.songdata contains information about the level's creator, speed, and difficulty. Players can share custom levels among themselves by uploading the folders containing their custom levels to jOeSU's online forum.

Een SONGDATA-bestand openen

SONGDATA files are plain text files, so you can open and edit them in any text editor. However, the game's community recommends that you do not open and edit SONGDATA files manually. Instead, you should edit the level associated with a SONGDATA file using jOeSU's level editor. Then, jOeSU will apply your edits to the level's SONGDATA file.

If you are having trouble opening a custom level in jOeSU's level editor, you may not have placed the level's folder in the correct directory. Custom jOeSU levels should be placed in the C:\Users\~\Documents\jOeSU_Custom\songs directory.
