A PUP file is a system update file used by the Sony PlayStation 4 (PS4) or Playstation 5 (PS5). It contains firmware that is meant to be installed on the corresponding game console. PS4 PUP files are named PS4UPDATE.PUP. PS5 PUP files are named PS5UPDATE.PUP.

Meer informatie

Typically, the PS4 and PS5 automatically update their system software as needed, via a connection to the Internet. However, a user can also manually update their console's software. To do so, the user must first download the appropriate PUP file from PlayStation.com.

You might want to manually update your console's software if:

  • The automatic update process fails
  • Your console is not connected to the Internet

You can also use a PUP file to perform a factory reset on your device. Doing so will overwrite your device's current firmware and delete all the data on your console, including saved game data.
