You can open KICAD_SCH files with KiCad. To open a KICAD_SCH file with KiCad, select File → Open in the Schematic Editor. Once opened, you can edit the circuit, run electrical rule checks, assign component footprints, and prepare the design for PCB layout.
Since KICAD_SCH files are plain text, you can also view their contents with a text editor, such as Microsoft Notepad or Apple TextEdit. However, they will not appear the same as if opened with KiCad.
