.RUF Estensione file

A RUF file is a Zip-based archive used by Ruffle, an open-source emulator for Adobe Flash. It packages a Flash game or other Flash content together with the assets and settings required to run it, making it easier to preserve and share Flash content that depends on multiple files.

RUF files contain a .TOML file (typically named ruffle-bundle.toml) that describes the bundle and a content directory containing the Flash content (they support Flash content written for ActionScript 1, 2, and 3). The bundle configuration specifies which content Ruffle should open and parameters that Ruffle passes to the starting Flash movie. This structure keeps a game and its required assets together instead of requiring users to manage the individual files separately.

Ruffle provides a way to run content without the original Adobe Flash Player, which reached end of support in 2020. RUF files are primarily used by people who preserve, share, or play older Flash games and other Flash content with Ruffle, and are particularly useful for Flash projects that depend on local assets or specific player settings.

You can open RUF files with Ruffle. The Ruffle desktop application can load Ruffle Bundles. If a RUF file does not open directly, you can extract it as a .ZIP archive to inspect its ruffle-bundle.toml and content files, then load the appropriate Flash content in Ruffle.
