A DOX file is a UserDocument used by Microsoft Visual Basic when developing ActiveX Document applications. It stores a UserDocument in a binary format, including its controls, properties, layout, and other information needed to recreate the document within a Visual Basic project. ActiveX Document technology has been discontinued, but DOX files may still be found in legacy Visual Basic projects and archived software.

You can open DOX files with Microsoft Visual Basic 6.0 as part of an ActiveX Document project. Since DOX files depend on other project files and Visual Basic components, they are generally not intended to be opened by themselves. Also, Visual Basic 6.0 is no longer developed.
