An XTP file is a data file used by XTree, a now-discontinued disk management utility popular in the 1980s and early 1990s for DOS and early Windows systems. It contains various program data types in binary format, such as directory structures, file metadata, or user-defined settings, which XTree referenced to operate efficiently.

Plus d'informations

Executive Systems Inc. (ESI) released XTree as a file management utility for MS-DOS in 1985. The program allowed users to navigate and manage files more efficiently than DOS’s built-in command-line tools. For example, XTree displayed files and directories in a structured tree format, making copying, moving, deleting, and renaming files easier. ESI released XTreeGold in the early 1990s with additional features, and although it was successful, XTree was eventually discontinued after Symantec acquired ESI in the mid-1990s.

The XTP files helped users track file metadata, store logs of file operations, and save session-specific data for later use. For example, XTP files were particularly helpful for power users and IT professionals who managed extensive file collections, as they could help streamline repetitive tasks and maintain organized file structures across different sessions.

REMARQUE: Since XTree is no longer developed, XTP files are mostly obsolete. However, some vintage software enthusiasts and data recovery specialists may still encounter XTP files when working with archived DOS-based systems.

Comment ouvrir un fichier XTP

XTP files are not meant to be opened. Instead, XTree, and later iterations, automatically referenced them to recall information they stored.

Additionally, the only known programs that support XTP files are Symantec XTree Pro, Gold, and Easy. However, these programs are no longer developed.
