.OVL Extension de fichier

An OVL file is an archive used by Jurassic World Evolution or Jurassic World Evolution 2. It contains assets used to show a dinosaur or other object in-game. These assets typically consist of a 3D model, textures, and associated animation data.

Jurassic World Evolution is a series of video games based on the movie Jurassic World. In the Jurassic World Evolution games, players build and manage their own dinosaur parks, which can contain up to 40 types of dinosaurs and other animals.

Both Jurassic World Evolution and Jurassic World Evolution 2 contain a set of OVL files. These files are archives saved in a proprietary file format. They contain all the assets a game needs to show and animate a dinosaur, animal, or other object. The Steam version of Jurassic World stores OVL files at the following location:

~/​Steam/​SteamApps/​common/​Jurassic World Evolution/​Win64/​ovldata

While players are not meant to open or edit OVL files, Jurassic World Evolution modders have created a utility that allows them to extract assets from and add assets to OVL files.

You can open an OVL file with OpenNaja cobra-tools, a modding utility for the Jurassic World Evolution series. Cobra-tools allows players to extract and edit OVL files' contents, using built-in editors and a plug-in for Blender. After editing an OVL file's contents, players can then repackage the modified OVL file for use as a Jurassic World Evolution mod.
