What is a ZCI file?
A ZCI file is a multimedia file retrieved from a ZCI Publishing educational CD-ROM. It contains data that links multiple .TXT files and multimedia assets together into a video presentation and related set of digital encyclopedia entries. ZCI Publishing sold many educational series that consisted of CDs that contained ZCI files.
More Information
In the 1990s, ZCI Publishing, now known as Zane Publishing, published several series of educational CDs. Some of these series included Revolutions in Art & Music, U.S. Geography, and Concise Encyclopedia.
Each CD contained a ZCI file, which combined the disc's text and multimedia files into a presentation and a set of related encyclopedia entries. Each CD also contained the program PowerCD (sometimes referred to as PowerCD Explorer), which learners could use to view the disc's content.
How to open a ZCI file
You can open a ZCI file with ZCI Publishing PowerCD (Windows). However, PowerCD is discontinued, and 64-bit versions of Windows cannot run it. Therefore, you may not be able to open your ZCI files in modern versions of Windows.
