What is a VMTM file?
A VMTM file is a configuration file used by VMware Workstation and VMware Fusion virtualization software. It contains settings for a "team," which is a group of virtual machines (VMs) that can interoperate in a VMware virtual lab environment and share the same virtual network resources.
More Information
Workstation and Fusion are applications that allow you to run multiple operating systems, including Windows and Linux, as virtual machines (VMs) on a Mac. In addition, VMware introduced the Teams feature when it released Workstation 5 to allow you to manage multiple VMs in different environments better.
When creating a team of VMs, the software creates a VMTM file to store configuration information for the team. You can modify and save a configuration as a VMTM file and load team configurations in a VMTM file through the VMware user interface.
NOTE: VMware replaced the Teams feature in Workstation 8 and no longer supports VMTM files.
How to open a VMTM file
VMware software replaced the Teams feature and no longer supports VMTM files. However, you can still convert the configuration with the VMware software.
For example, to convert a VMTM file with Workstation Pro, open the team and drag the VMTM file to the library, then click Convert Team to convert the VMTM file. After converting the team, the software deletes the VMTM file and adds the VMs to a new folder in the library.
