What is a VMM file?
A VMM file is a video project created by Microsoft 3D Movie Maker. It contains an animated 3D scene, and it may also contain music, sound effects, spoken audio, and special effects. The VMM format was eventually replaced by the .3MM format.
Microsoft 3D Movie Maker was published as part of the Microsoft Kids product line. It allowed children (and others) to create animated 3D movies, complete with 3D characters and environments, animations, sound effects, music, dialogue, and special effects.
Early versions of 3D Movie Maker saved users' animation projects as VMM files. Later versions saved projects in the universal 3MM format, used by both 3D Movie Maker and its offshoot, Nickelodeon 3D Movie Maker.
How to open a VMM file
You can open a VMM file with Microsoft 3D Movie Maker (Windows). While 3D Movie Maker is discontinued, it is still available for download on Microsoft's GitHub page. Note that 3D Movie Maker may not run in modern versions of Windows.
