What is a TT25 file?
A TT25 file is a tax return file created by TurboTax Canada 2025, an application for preparing and filing Canadian federal and provincial taxes. It stores the information needed to complete a Canadian tax return for the 2025 tax year, including income details, deductions, credits, and other required data. TT25 files are used by the software to organize and calculate your return before it is filed with the Canada Revenue Agency (CRA).

When you save your progress in TurboTax Canada 2025, the program creates or updates a TT25 file. This allows you to close the program and return later to continue working on your tax return. The file keeps all entered information in one place, making it easy to review, edit, and finalize your return before submitting it electronically or printing it for mailing.
TT25 files are commonly used for several purposes:
- Saving a 2025 tax return so you can complete it later.

Default Save Location (Windows)
By default, TurboTax Canada 2025 saves TT25 files in the following folder:
C:\Users[username]\Documents\TurboTax\2025
NOTE: TT25 files are similar in purpose to U.S. TurboTax files (such as .TAX2025), which also store tax return data for a specific year. TurboTax Canada and the U.S. version use a year-based file naming system (e.g., a 2024 return is saved as a .TT24 file, while a 2023 return uses the .TT23 extension).
How to open a TT25 file
You can open TT25 files with the desktop version of Intuit Canada TurboTax 2025 in Windows. To open a TT25 file with the software, select File → Open Tax Return.
If you are filing your 2026 tax return using TurboTax Canada Online, you can upload a TT25 file to import your 2025 tax data. To do this, go to My Returns → Start a new return, choose your TurboTax product, select TurboTax Download/CD, click Continue, and then upload your TT25 file.
