What is a TT24 file?

A TT24 file is a tax return file created by TurboTax Canada 2024, a tax preparation software for filing Canadian federal and provincial taxes. It contains user-entered tax data, including income details, deductions, credits, and other financial information needed to complete a 2024 tax return. TT24 files function similarly to .TAX2024 files, which the U.S. version of TurboTax 2024 creates to save tax returns.

More Information

When you save a tax return, TurboTax Canada 2024 automatically generates a TT24 file. The file allows you to continue your progress, make edits, and later submit your return electronically or print it for mailing. Common uses for TT24 files include:

  • Saving a 2024 tax return for filing or future access.
  • Backing up tax data to prevent loss or corruption.
  • Transferring 2024 tax information into TurboTax Canada 2025 to prefill next year’s return.

Default Save Location (Windows)

By default, TurboTax Canada 2024 stores TT24 files in the following location:

C:\Users\[username]\Documents\TurboTax\2024

TurboTax Canada uses a year-based file extension naming convention. For example, a 2023 tax return is saved as TT23, while a 2022 return uses TT22.

How to open a TT24 file

You can open TT24 files with the desktop version of Intuit Canada TurboTax 2024 in Windows. To open a TT24 file with the software, select File → Open Tax Return.
